Path Walkthrough
Walkers can expect a route comprised of field paths skirting the edge of woodland through kissing gates, forest tracks and pastures. Road walking is kept to a minimum, most being on entering and leaving the region's towns and villages. As you follow The Cotswold Round, you'll notice that the path will weave through and join other established walking routes, including The Cotswold Way.
On your way you'll find plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the far-reaching views of the countryside as you make your way up hills and out into wide open clearings. As you make your way around the country and into the towns and villages your path bypasses the old abbeys, churches and historic estates that make up the scenery of this quintessentially English landscape.

Our Cotswold Round holidays are available to walk March to October.
Weather conditions in Britain, though mild, are not known for being particularly stable and it's hard to give a good idea of how the weather will behave outside the space of a week or so.
The Cotswolds is milder than most places in the UK, and walkers can expect to walk the landscape in any given season without great difficulty.
Moreton-in-Marsh is easily reached by train. Walkers travelling in from London have a 2 hour train journey, and there are connecting trains at Stratford as well as Hereford and Oxford on The Cotswold Line.
If you're having an extra couple days or so to wander about the area at your own leisure, making a number of shorter journeys via bus or train, it may be worth considering a Cotswolds Discoverer Pass.
Cotswold Round Client Reviews
4.8/5 based on 37 reviews
The Cotswold Round was easy to do, we enjoyed a lot of amazing landscapes, we saw beautiful villages and an incredibly beautiful countryside. This was our second walking holiday with Celtic Trails. I think that the organisation is excellent.
Eleonora, Milan - August 2024
Penny was great at customizing our trip and making the Cotswolds Round work with our time frame. We would describe the trip as excellent and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to walk. Celtic Trails reduces the anxiety of planning, so that you can just enjoy the walk. You can have an adventure without a lot of stress. The landscape of the Cotswolds was gorgeous, and one big garden, and the trip was an experience of a lifetime (unless we go on another Celtic Trails walk). Well arranged and easy to do, while still feeling like we were individuals and on our own. Allows you to be spontaneous because you have a reassuring structure.
Kathryn, Montana - June 2024
Our holiday was very well organized, good documents with all the details.
Anon - May 2024
As each day came to a close, we were proud of what we had accomplished. This type of trip was definitely outside of my comfort zone so I have a real sense of accomplishment. The taxi transfers worked out beautifully.
Claudia Teitelbaum - May 2024
Fairly easy to follow self guide with great service before the trip and accommodating with our requests. Plus both walks I have taken with you, the instructions have made every effort to avoid roads so we could enjoy all of the nature available.
Carine D. - September 2023

We would feel comfortable recommending Celtic Trails. In fact we already have. Everything was well organized. Celtic Trails quickly put our vacation together. The hikes were reasonable distances. The accommodations were good. The Cotswold villages were quite beautiful to walk through.

Bev & Scott, Cumbria - September 2021
Celtic Trails are a good walking holiday company who also seem to be respected by other walkers, B&B owners and service providers. Walking holidays always make me feel better :-)

Ian, Derbyshire - August 2020
Celtic Trails were very well organised - very responsive to our enquiries and great trip options. W enjoyed meeting other walkers along the way; our hosts; the scenery and villages were outstanding; the peace and quiet along the way were a pleasant change from every day life.
G. Vitort - October 2019
This was my 7th walk with Celtic. I have not had a reason to try another company. It was a relaxing, worry free holiday. Accommodations were very comfortable. A long distance walk is deeply meditative. I feel deeply relaxed even during hard climbs. The calm stays with you for days afterwards.
T. McNaught - October 2019
Celtic Trails were terrific - I would highly recommend. We felt great during and after the trip.
Anon. - September 2019
We would describe Celtic Trails as friendly, helpful and clear. Besides the aches and pains of an 80km hike, with little preparation, this walk has opened our eyes to the pleasures of such trips, with beautiful scenery and pleasant locals.
Anon. - August 2019
Celtic Trails: made all arrangements, seamless, clear information, great accommodations, flexible route design. This holiday had a positive impact on our health and well-being and was a delightful conclusion to our 3 weeks in England and Scotland. In retrospect, we wish we had taken a rest day, because it was our first time in the Cotswolds, we stopped often to look, for pictures and to be tourists. Consequently, we finished our days later than we'd hoped.
Dawna & Karen, Oregon - August 2019
Celtic Trails - "they'll take care of the details so you can focus on the walking itself!" - we would recommend them.
D. Schaffhauser - June 2019
I would recommend Celtic Trails to a friend - they are efficient, friendly and easy to communicate with.
M. Evans - June 2019
Celtic Trails provided a great service; beautifully managed and responsive to all questions and concerns. I feel fantastically happy with every aspect of the experience. I feel I could go back tomorrow and keep on walking. The opportunity to walk opens up so many vistas you would never experience from a train or car journey. We met many people - local and travellers like us - who added to the daily joy of walking.
L. Chandler - May 2019
My whole experience with Celtic Trails was positive. The tour was well-organised, had excellent choices in accommodation, communication was excellent and would highly recommend. Walking through new areas provides a totally different dimension than travel by vehicle. The walker has time to enjoy the sights and be fully immersed in the environment. I find nature uplifting and being able to walk though such beautiful and varied areas was just a joy - animals, castles, stiles, kissing gates, farmers, fellow walkers, glades of trees, flowers, cottages, Devonshire teas, luxurious accommodation. Celtic Trails provided the complete package.
Mary - May 2019
All in all, we enjoyed the walk very much and will be doing another in the near future. Cheers and thank you.
K.H. - October 2018
An excellent experience overall.
Anon. - July 2018
All luggage transfers were carried out as arranged. Contact with Celtic Trails was excellent.
Anon. - June 2018
The path was very well marked and the directions excellent. We heard about Celtic Trails in a New York Times article and you met your expectations. The only reason we wouldn't walk with you again is if you didn't offer a walk in a particular area we wanted to visit. We most enjoyed meeting local residents along the way and discovering places you wouldn't know about if you were driving or with a large tour group. Also the solitude - it was just the two of us.
Mr & Mrs Dunn - May 2018
In short, we loved all of it - the views, very little walking along roads required, quaint villages and pubs. We consider ourselves to be intermediate level hikers, but found we enjoyed the shorter mileage days because we could take more time to enjoy the sites and pubs! We were glad that we added the extra night in Chipping Campden to shorten the mileage.
T. Garvey - May 2018
"Overall, we loved this trip - and appreciate all your help in organising and facilitating this great walk in The Cotswolds. Congrats to you and Celtic Trails."
Ackleson - September 2017
"We feel that nothing could be improved – it was all very easy and the organisation and communication exceeded all expectations! We would certainly use Celtic Trails again & will introduce to our friends! Thank – you."
Mr & Mrs Seedall - May 2017
Local Points Of Interest
Chipping Campden
Chipping Campden is simply a perfect Cotswold town. The town's Church of St James, one of the finest in the Cotswolds, was built in the 15th century, financed by merchants who bought wool from Cotswold farmers and exported it at high profit.
The oldest house in Chipping Campden is believed to be Grevel House built by William Grevel c1380. Found in the High Street, Grevel House is the oldest in a fine row of buildings, and is distinguished by a double-storey bay window.
Stanway House
The magnificent triple gabled Jacobean Gatehouse of Stanway House is a prominent feature of the walk into Stanway village.
Richard Tracy bought the manor in 1533 and three generations of the Tracy family created the wonderful manor house, and the gateway was created by Sir Richard Tracy, in 1630. Stanway House is located on the Winchcombe to Stanton and Winchcombe to Broadway sections of both itineraries.
